Abstract
Tinea unguium or onychomycosis is an infection of the nail plate caused by dermatophyte, nondermatophyte, or yeast skin fungi. One of the factors that cause Tinea Unguium, namely direct contact with soil or animals, humidity, working in a wet environment and not using footwear. The purpose of this study was to describe the presence of Tinea Unguium on the toenails of rice farmers in Jati Makmur Village, North Binjai District, Binjai City. The samples used were rice farmers in Jati Makmur Village, North Binjai District, Binjai City. This research was conducted in Jati Makmur Village, North Binjai District, Binjai City and at the STIKes Senior Microbiology Laboratory, Medan. The sampling technique was done by simple random sampling, that is, each respondent from the population has the same opportunity to be selected and a nail cut is taken as a sample. Then the toenail samples were examined using LPCB staining (Lactophenol. Cotton Blue). Results Based on the research, the description of the presence of purple tinea on toenails was obtained from 38 rice farmers in Jati Makmur Village, North Binjai District, Binjai City which were positive as many as 12 respondents (31.5%).
